PUBLIC NOTICE NO. 1/2002 Dated: 10.01.2002

Sub: CONVERSION OF EUR0 CURRENCY TO THE 11 EMU CURRENCIES- REG.

Trade and Custom House Agents are hereby informed that the EURO has been introduced as sole full-fledged currency of the European Monitory Union (EMU) after 31.12.2001. The legal currencies of the twelve member nations namely, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal and Finland will change over to EURO as per the time table fixed by the respective nations.

However, the CBEC, vide their letter No. F NO. 468/14/2001- Cus V(Pt) dated 31^st December 2001 has informed that in cases where only legal currency invoices are submitted by the Exporter / Importer the notified exchange rates for the European Monitory Union (EMU) currencies may be used till February 2002.
